While I am certainly not a downhill kind of guy, I do sometimes ride ‘aggressively‘. We’re not talking about big air here, more like the ‘fast down rocky sections‘ kind of aggressiveness.
While there are rare times I might want the protection of a full face helmet – I was mostly looking for more protection in the form of an enduro style helmet. Enduro style helmets cover much more of the rear of your head as well as the side.
I was looking at the Bell Super 2 Enduro helmet (no chin guard) when I saw that I could get Enduro helmet protection AND be able to bump up to Full Face Mode in one helmet with the Bell Super 2R Mountain Bike Helmet! SOLD!
Here’s what I found. The Bell fits my head like a glove. While normal MTB helmets seem to sit on top of your head, the Bell feels like it’s wrapped around your head. It’s a completely different feeling!
I’m sure it might be slightly warmer than my old helmet but it’s still got plenty of big vents in the shell. Compare this to other Enduro helmets and the ventilation factor will probably be the same.

As for the details…
Got mine in White in Large
Weight: 694 grams with the chin bar, 417 without.
What I Liked: I’m genuinely pleased with the build quality. Typical for a high end Bell helmet. Overall, the helmet feels light yet the parts feel strong where they need to be. The liner is soft and comfortable. It’s easy to adjust. Chin straps are super easy to adjust and very comfortable. The buckle is easy to snap and unsnap even with gloves on.
What I Didn’t Like: With everything there is always some sort of marketing gimmick. With this helmet I think the only thing that qualifies as gimmick would be the integrated breakaway camera mount (I guess they couldn’t say “GoPro”). Why even have this? First thing I did was remove it so I could attach a helmet light for a night ride. I’ll stick a GoPro sticky mount in it’s place. Other than that – I’m a happy camper! Oh yeah – color choices… Not many. I wanted something High Vis and white was the best I could do. Oh well.
Attaching the Chin-bar: Attachment is easy. 3 buckles and it’s on. Incredibly it’s actually easier to put on while you are wearing the helmet. I found a simple video that shows just how it’s done. I stood in front of a mirror for the 1st try and it’s sooo easy to do now. 🙂
